BlackSlate is a research and workflow tool for people who develop film and television: the producers and development executives who find a story, check who owns it, get a writer on it and keep it alive until someone pays to make it.
Why it exists
Development runs on scattered knowledge: a spreadsheet of options, a hunch about a book, a public domain date someone looked up once and never checked. Rights data in particular goes wrong without anyone noticing, and a wrong date costs real money. BlackSlate brings the research and the slate into one place, and shows its working.
What we will not do
- Round an unchecked record up to public domain or down to protected. It says Not verified.
- Show a date without the rule behind it.
- Put customer logos or quotes on this site before anyone has asked to be quoted.
- Train AI models on your scripts.
